what is soi cowboy exactly??

arrow_drop_up 2619 arrow_drop_down

ngl the existing replies cover the basics pretty well but one thing nobody mentioned is the soi cowboy song. the bars all have these little stages with dancers and they play the same rotating playlist every night, by 2am you'll have heard "dancing queen" like 5 times. if you go, grab a seat at suzie wong for the best view of the chaos, their balcony overlooks the whole street

yeah it's sukhumvit soi 23, named after the american guy who ran a bar there and always wore a stetson. the whole street is like 100 meters of neon and loud music spilling out of gogo bars, gets pretty packed after 10pm. if you're just curious, walk through once and grab a beer at one of the open-front bars, nobody's gonna pressure you into anything

honestly it's just a 150 meter lane off sukhumvit soi 23, named after the cowboy hat the guy who built it wore. it's basically the most concentrated strip of gogo bars in bangkok, but not as sleazy as nana plaza imo. if you're not into the bar scene, skip it, but the street food at the entrance is legit and cheap

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
