the thonburi tip is solid, i'd add that staying near the saphan taksin bts makes it way more convenient than people think, you can be at siam in 20 mins for like 30 baht. also if you're on a mid-range budget in rattanakosin check out the khaosan area's side sois like soi rambuttri, way quieter but still a 5-min walk to the chaos, and a good room goes for 800-1,000 baht. one thing i'd mention is the songthaews in bangkok aren't as common as in other thai cities but they run on some routes in thonburi and can save u a few baht if you're watching costs
