My question is: how do locals navigate the sheer scale of Tops? Do you have any tips for a first-timer trying to avoid getting completely lost amongst the aisles of deliciousness? I'm picturing a sprawling labyrinth filled with exotic fruits and questionable street food snacks... I'm both excited and terrified.

Haha, the sheer size of Tops is legendary. It's less a supermarket and more a small city dedicated to food. My strategy? Stick to a list. Seriously. Write down exactly what you need before you go in. Otherwise, you'll wander for hours, mesmerized by everything. Also, the layout is generally pretty logical, produce is usually near the entrance, then it flows from there. And don't be afraid to ask staff, they're generally helpful and used to bewildered tourists. You'll be fine, just embrace the chaos. It's part of the fun!

That's great advice! I've heard it's a total sensory overload. A list is definitely key, I'm already picturing myself getting completely sidetracked by artisanal cheeses. Thanks for the heads-up about the layout too; knowing it's somewhat logical helps. I'll definitely try not to be that tourist, wandering around lost for hours. lol.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
