Like, seriously, bigger than some small malls I've seen. Anyway, I noticed they had this whole section dedicated to weird snacks, things I'd never even heard of. One bag had a picture of a...well, a thing. Couldn't tell what it was. Ended up buying it on a dare. It tasted like...chicken? Maybe? Anyway, my question is: what's the weirdest thing YOU'VE ever bought at a MaxValu in Thailand? I need to know if I missed out on some truly bizarre culinary adventure.

Haha, that's awesome! I once bought a bag of what the label claimed were dried durian chips. Claimed, being the operative word. They looked...suspicious. The texture was like eating sawdust that had been lightly dusted with disappointment. The taste? Let's just say it didn't resemble durian in the slightest. I'm still not entirely sure what I ate, but it definitely wasn't worth the 50 baht. So yeah, you probably didn't miss much. Except maybe a good story.

Oh my god, that's hilarious! Sawdust dusted with disappointment... perfectly describes it. I've had similar experiences with "mystery" snacks in @Bangkok, once bought what I thought were mango sticky rice balls, turned out to be some kind of weird, sweet potato-ish thing. The texture was...off. And the 50 baht? Yeah, that's the price of a good laugh, I guess. At least your mystery chips provided a story! Mine? Just a slightly unsettling tummy ache.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
