Always loved how insanely massive the place is, it's like a hyper-organized warehouse wonderland. Last time I was there, though, I got completely turned around in the frozen foods section. It felt like a labyrinth! Seriously, how do people work there and not get lost daily? Anyone have any tips for navigating the Makro maze without ending up staring blankly at a mountain of frozen prawns for an hour? Or maybe a secret shortcut...?

I'd suggest making a lap of the perimeter first to get your bearings, the outer walls have the fresh produce, meat, and dairy sections which are easier to navigate. Once you know where the bakery and the big cheese blocks are, it's simpler to cut into the middle aisles for dry goods. The frozen section is always a bit chaotic because they reorganize it seasonally, so don't feel bad about getting turned around.

There is a yellow line painted on the floor near the customer service desk that leads straight to the frozen section. Follow that and you will hit the wall of prawns in about two minutes without any detours. The line was originally for the delivery drivers but nobody stops you from using it. Also, the cashiers near the exit on the Ratchadaphisek side are usually faster than the ones by the main entrance.

the trick is to remember the store layout is actually a loop, not a grid. if you hit the dairy section, you've gone too far and need to circle back toward the produce side. i usually park near the entrance on ladprao road side, grab a cart that doesn't wobble, and mentally mark the aisle with the giant sacks of jasmine rice as my home base. also, the staff wear bright yellow vests, just flag one down instead of wandering, they're used to it

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
