The thing is, I'm a bit of a neat freak. I'm worried about the cleanliness, given the stories I've heard about it being a bit... lived in. Anyone stayed there recently? Spill the tea on the hygiene situation, please. I want a relaxing vacation, not a germ-warfare scenario.

Lol, Overstay Hotel, huh? That place is definitely an experience. Think "character" over pristine. Cleanliness is...relative. I wouldn't say it's a biohazard, but it's definitely not a place you'd want to lick the floor. Honestly, it depends on your room and how much you're willing to overlook. Some rooms are cleaner than others. Your best bet is to book one of the more recently renovated ones, if they even have that option. Bring your own sheets if you're really that concerned. Or, you know, just pick a different hotel in @Bangkok. There are tons of great options, even if you're on a budget.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
