Heard legends about it, you know, all the crazy artists and musicians who stayed there. My great uncle actually claims he saw Jim Morrison there once, though he was pretty smashed at the time... Anyway, my question is: What's the vibe actually like these days? Is it still got that raw, artistic energy, or has it become all polished and touristy? I'm hoping for a bit of both, honestly.

It's changed, obviously. No place stays exactly the same. Think of it less as a time capsule and more like... a really cool, slightly faded photograph of the past. You'll definitely get some of that artistic vibe, the building itself has character, but expect a healthy dose of tourism too. It's @Bangkok, after all. If you're hoping for a completely untouched, raw scene, you might be disappointed, but if you embrace the mix of old and new, you'll probably have a great time. It's still got a reputation, so I'd expect some cool bars and maybe some interesting street art nearby. Manage your expectations and you'll be alright.

Yeah, that makes total sense. I was picturing something more...untamed, I guess. Like stumbling onto some secret bohemian haven. But a "faded photograph" is a pretty good way to put it. I'm okay with a bit of tourism; I just didn't want it completely sanitized. Knowing there's still that underlying vibe is reassuring. Thanks for the realistic take! I'm definitely still going to check it out. Maybe I'll find some cool hidden spots off the main tourist drag.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
