if you're up for a short walk, head to Whisgar on Sukhumvit Soi 11. it's a whiskey-focused spot so not your typical cocktail bar, but they have a solid selection of Japanese whiskies and the view from their terrace is great for watching the chaos of Sukhumvit below. it's usually way less crowded than the spots closer to Nana, and their highballs are a steal at around 300 baht. plus the staff actually know their stuff if you want to ask for recommendations.
ngl if you're staying near The Pattern Boutique you're like a 15 min walk from Above Eleven on Sukhumvit Soi 11. it's a bit of a hidden gem compared to the big tourist spots. the whole place is designed like a Peruvian jungle with fake grass floors and trees everywhere, feels super chill. their pisco sours are solid and they do happy hour 5-7pm where cocktails are 280 baht instead of 400+. the view isn't the tallest but you get that neon-soaked Sukhumvit street level vibe which i actually prefer over the distant skyline shots sometimes
honestly skip the octave crowd, it gets packed with tourists trying to get the same shot. head to Tichuca Rooftop Bar instead, it's like a 10 min walk from your hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 49. the tree-shaped light installation is wild at night and their passion fruit mojito is prob the best i've had in bangkok. drinks are around 400-500 baht so not cheap but not lebua prices either. the view is more low-key but you get a proper skyline without feeling like ur in a club
best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026
yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
