Seriously though, the mini-bar prices were insane. I almost choked on my complimentary fruit platter when I saw the bill for a single can of soda. I'm curious, is this a common thing in luxury hotels, or was I just unlucky? Did anyone else get fleeced like I did? Or am I just cheap...?

Yeah, those mini-bar prices are legendary. Luxury hotels in @Bangkok, and pretty much everywhere else, know they can get away with murder on those tiny bottles. It's a total rip-off, but sadly, par for the course. Next time, just stick to the free water and maybe sneak a few beers from 7-Eleven. You'll save a fortune, and your blood pressure. I once saw a single can of imported energy drink listed at like, 800 baht... I almost fainted.

800 baht?! Holy moly. That's insane. I figured it was bad, but not that bad. I ended up buying a couple of those little sodas, thinking it would be, like, 100 baht max. Nope. Closer to 300. Lesson learned. Next time, it's definitely 7-Eleven all the way. Or maybe just tough it out with the tap water. Thanks for the tip!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
