Hi,

I had to leave Thailand after an emergency and left my backpack with a friend. I was planning on coming back to Bangkok after a week unfortunately life happened and I am now in Malaysia and can't come back to Bangkok any time soon. Is there any ways I can get my backpack back? And how much it would cost me? I would appreciate some useful tips and advice!

Thank you

Make sure your friend packs it securely and tapes up the box well before any courier picks it up. If you use Thailand Post's EMS service it could be cheaper than DHL, usually around 800-1,500 baht depending on weight and destination. Tell your friend to go to any post office in Bangkok to get a shipping quote first, they'll weigh it and give you the exact price.

honestly, your friend could just ship it via Flash Express or J&T from any 7-Eleven. most of them have drop-off points now, especially in areas like Sukhumvit or around Phra Khanong. it's dirt cheap compared to DHL, like maybe 500-800 baht for a medium backpack to Malaysia, and they'll track it on the app. just make sure your friend takes out any power banks or toiletries over 100ml, those will get flagged at customs for sure.

If your friend is near any of the main shopping areas like Siam or Asok, there are also courier shops inside many of the BTS stations now. Flash Express and J&T both have counters at places like Siam Square or Terminal 21, and they can handle domestic pickup to forward it to a post office for international shipping. Your friend could drop it at one of those instead of hunting down a post office, and the total cost for a medium backpack to Malaysia should be around 1,200 baht. Just have them check if the bag has any batteries or liquids inside, those cause delays with customs.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
