Sawadee,

I'm visiting Bangkok in ten days from Copenhagen. I'm half/thai and I speak thai fluently. I haven't lived in Thailand for quite a long time so I'm wondering where I can find creative/cultural spaces in Bangkok that are interesting to visit. It's been hard to find places like this in my research.

For example: Venues that host art exhibitions, performance arts, concerts, parties, open mics, comedy nights, etc.

ANY tips are welcomed :)

bangkok art and culture centre (bacc) near siam is the obvious one but since you speak thai you should check out the smaller spots. warehouse 30 in charoen krung has rotating exhibitions and a cool cafe, plus they do live music sometimes. for comedy and open mics, the comedy club on sukhumvit 33 does english nights but if you want thai language stuff, look up "rooftop comedy bangkok" on facebook they post events in thai. also check out jam cafe in charoen krung for a really chill intimate concert vibe on weekends

honestly if you speak thai you should check out the underground spots that don't show up on google maps. try "the commons" in thonglor, they have a good mix of pop-up art and live music nights, not just the usual gallery stuff. also "jam factory" near krung thon buri bts is a hidden gem for indie concerts and open mics, mostly locals so you'll get the real vibe. for comedy, "the comedy club" at sukhumvit 33 has thai and english sets but it's hit or miss depending on the night.

the creative district is solid but also check out song wat road near the river, there's a few old shophouses turned into project spaces that fly under the radar. the thai language connection will help you find exhibitions at places like 100 ton sen or the atta gallery, they're smaller but the programming is more experimental than bacc. for performance and parties, keep an eye on instagram accounts like 'bangkok art map' and 'the commons' because a lot of the good stuff happens in temporary spaces or pop-ups that don't show up on google maps. if you want comedy in thai specifically, the comedy club has some thai-only nights but i'd also follow 'komedy klub' on facebook, they do shows at various bars around ekkamai that are less touristy

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
