🍜 Start at Taoyuan Station
The blocks around Taoyuan Railway Station are the best place to begin a food crawl. Exit the front of the station and walk five minutes to Zhongzheng Road, where you'll find a cluster of old-school noodle shops and braised pork rice stalls. A bowl of dry noodles with minced pork and a boiled egg costs around NT$50 to NT$70, and most stalls open by 7:00 AM and close around 8:00 PM. For a quick snack, try the scallion pancakes at the cart near the station's east exit, usually NT$35 to NT$50.

πŸ₯Ÿ Zhongzheng Road Classics
Zhongzheng Road is the backbone of Taoyuan's traditional food scene. Look for the long-running stalls selling gua bao (Taiwanese pork belly buns) for about NT$50 each, and the small shops offering wonton soup in clear broth for NT$60 to NT$80. Many of these spots have been in the same family for decades, and the quality is consistent. Most open around 11:00 AM and close by 9:00 PM, with a short break in the late afternoon.

🍧 Desserts on Zhongshan Road
Zhongshan Road is where you go for sweet treats after a savory meal. The famous shaved ice shops here serve generous bowls of mango ice in summer for NT$120 to NT$160, and traditional toppings like red beans and taro balls for around NT$60 to NT$80. One well-known spot is near the intersection with Minzu Road, and it stays open until 10:00 PM. In winter, switch to hot tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) in sweet ginger soup for about NT$50.

🍳 Breakfast Near the Market
Taoyuan's traditional breakfast culture is centered around the area near the Yong'an Market on Zhongzheng Road. From 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, you'll find stalls selling danbing (egg crepes) for NT$35 to NT$50, fresh soy milk for NT$20, and fried dough sticks for NT$25. The market itself has a few sit-down stalls where locals order a bowl of rice porridge with pickles and a fried egg for under NT$60. Arrive before 8:30 AM to catch the best selection.

🍱 Bento Shops for Lunch
Taoyuan is packed with bento shops that offer excellent value for lunch. A typical biandang with rice, a main protein like fried pork chop or chicken leg, and three vegetable sides costs NT$90 to NT$120. Try the shops along Fuxing Road and Zhonghua Road, where you'll see locals lining up from 11:30 AM. Most close by 2:00 PM and reopen for dinner from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

πŸŒƒ Evening at Taoyuan Night Market
The Taoyuan Night Market, located near the intersection of Zhongzheng Road and Beipu Road, is the go-to spot for dinner and late-night snacks. It runs from about 6:00 PM to midnight, and you can graze on oyster omelets for NT$70, fried chicken fillets for NT$70 to NT$90, and grilled squid for NT$100. The market is busiest on weekends, so go on a weekday if you want more breathing room. Bring cash, as most stalls don't accept cards.

🍲 Hot Pot and Late Dinner
For a sit-down dinner, Taoyuan has plenty of hot pot restaurants that stay open late. A personal hot pot with pork or beef and a vegetable plate typically costs NT$250 to NT$350, and many shops on Zhongshan Road and Fuxing Road are open until 11:00 PM. Look for the ones with a queue of locals, which usually means fresh ingredients and good broth. Some also offer unlimited rice and ice cream for no extra charge.

πŸ’‘ Practical Food Tips
Most street food stalls and small restaurants in Taoyuan District are cash-only, so keep small bills on hand. Prices are generally lower at lunch than at dinner, and many stalls close one day a week, often Monday. If you're using public transport, the Taoyuan MRT and local buses stop near the main food streets, but walking between Zhongzheng, Zhongshan, and Fuxing Roads is easy and lets you sample more. Tipping isn't expected anywhere.

been through the station area a few times and the one thing i'd tack on is the little breakfast places tucked in the lanes off Zhongshan near the Dahua area, fewer tourists and the soy milk is thicker. also worth noting the night market stalls rotate a bit by day so what u see tuesday might not be there friday. nice work on the prices, that bento range is right on.

Good writeup, but you missed the lunch-only bians on Jianguo Road near the junior high, where the fried pork chop bento runs NT$85 and the line moves fast.
