They look pretty steep in some places. Anyone hiked there recently and have tips on navigating the tougher trails, especially if you're not super experienced? What gear should I bring that I might not think of? I really don't want to slip and fall!

if ur not super experienced the thing nobody mentions is going down is harder than going up, your knees take the beating on those steps and thats where most people actually eat it. i'd budget way more time for the descent than u think, like double. also the trails off the main ridge toward miantianshan are way less crowded & honestly more scenic but the signage is trash so download an offline map of yangmingshan before u go, signal is spotty up there

the main trail up from the jiuwushan trailhead is stone steps most of the way so its less about slipping and more about your quads burning out. bring a trekking pole if you have dodgy knees, and start before 8am because the steps get slick from mist once the sun hits them around midday. gloves help too, the ropes on the steeper sections are rough on hands

honestly most people underestimate the bus situation. the小18 from Shilin picks up near MRT Jiantan but only runs a few times in the morning, so if u miss the 7am one you're kinda stuck waiting. i'd grab a cheap poncho from a 7-Eleven instead of a fancy rain jacket, you'll sweat through anything waterproof anyway. also bring more water than feels reasonable, there's basically nowhere to refill once you're past the trailhead

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
