I've heard the sunrise from the peak is breathtaking, but the online info is sparse on the actual trail conditions, are there any particularly tricky sections I should be aware of, or any essential gear beyond the usual hiking stuff? I want to be prepared so I can fully enjoy the view!

The trailhead near Zhongyong Temple is easy to miss if you're coming by scooter, the turnoff on Lane 101 of the 3rd section of Zhishan Road is unmarked and the Google pin drops you about 200m past it. Parking is basically nonexistent so most people get dropped off or take a taxi from Shilin. Start around 3:30am if you want to be up top by 5, the first stretch through the bamboo grove is the real time sink because it's dark and rooty.

if u go on a weekday you might have the whole platform to yourself which is way better than the weekend circus up there. also check the weather the night before, jiuwushan sits low enough that it's often clear when yangmingshan is socked in but the reverse happens too & you don't wanna climb in fog for nothing. one thing nobody mentions, the trail splits near the top and the left fork takes you to the actual viewpoint while the right just dumps you in the brush, follow the ribbons people tie on branches

tbh the last bit near the top gets pretty steep and theres a rope section thats slick when wet so watch your footing there. bring a headlamp for sure and maybe a light windbreaker, the summit gets windy before the sun comes up even in summer

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
