Seriously, it was sensory overload! I tried the stinky tofu, surprisingly not as bad as I expected, and some kind of amazing oyster omelet. But then, I stumbled upon this tiny, unassuming stall tucked away in a corner, selling something that looked like...well, I'm not even sure. It was dark, kinda glistening, and smelled faintly of... cinnamon? The owner wouldn't speak much English, and my Mandarin is... lacking. Anyone know what that mystery dish was? I've been dreaming about it ever since.

If the stall was near the Wuxing St end, the smell could've been from a winter-only stand doing roasted sweet potato with a brown sugar and gui hua (osmanthus) glaze. That combo gives off a warm spice note people often misread as cinnamon, and the tuber gets that dark, glossy sheen when the syrup caramelizes on the skin. Vendors there usually post up from November through February, so timing matters if you're trying to track it down. Worth checking the small alley just north of the main drag, some of those stalls only run after 8pm.

cinnamon note is what's throwing me too. if it was winter when u went theres a decent chance it was tanghulu style candied something, or more likely a warm gan zhe (sugarcane) glazed item. actually my bet is on "ba wan" reheated in a five spice broth, those get shiny and the sauce can smell almost cinnamony from the star anise. the stalls right at the wuxing/songshou corner turn over fast so honestly it might already be gone, which sucks.

dark glistening with cinnamon could be wu xiang (five spice) braised stuff, like lu wei. that sauce gets sticky and shiny and the spice blend reads sweet almost cinnamony sometimes. if it was chewy it might've been braised dou gan or ji zhun, the little chicken gizzards. honestly vendors on the side streets off Songshou tend to rotate stalls weekly so it might be gone by now.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
