Any hidden local eateries or hole-in-the-wall places the suits don't know about? I'm craving authentic Taiwanese food, not fancy hotel buffets. Seriously considering sneaking off the conference schedule for some exploration. Hope I don't get lost trying to find something amazing...

the real trick is hitting the lunch rush at the xizhi market just across the bridge, it's a 10 min walk from the park but feels like a whole different world. there's a stall near the back called a xiang that does an incredible braised pork rice with a soft egg on top, costs like 60 ntd and they've been there for 20 years. the tech guys usually grab the overpriced bento boxes at the park so you'll have the place to yourself if you go around 11:30 before the local crowd hits

skip the park entirely and head toward the old neihu night market area, it's a 5 min scooter ride or a 15 min walk from the tech zone. there's a stall called lao hu jiao bing that's been around since the 90s, they do these pepper buns fresh from a clay oven, crispy outside and packed with juicy pork. the tech crowd doesn't know it exists because it's tucked behind a row of old apartment buildings near lane 68, you'll see a line of locals around 11am

honestly the real neihu is all about those narrow lanes off wenhu road. if you duck into the alley behind the old mitsukoshi building you'll find this place called yong he soy milk that's been there since the 80s. they do a mean dan bing and their soy milk is still ground in house, super thick and fragrant. the suits mostly stick to the food court at the park so you'll be fine sneaking out for lunch if your conference has a break

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
