Heard stories about the insane crowds and finding a decent meal amongst the throngs of people can be a challenge. Seriously though, what's the best strategy to navigate the crowds and actually find some good food without spending an hour just getting pushed around? Is there some kind of secret path or less crowded time to visit?

honestly just go on a weekday if you can, tuesday or wednesday around 6pm is way chiller than weekends. the real trick is to skip the main drag near the mrt exit and cut through the alley by the old theater, that's where the better stalls like the pepper bun spot are without the bottleneck crowds. also grab a cold drink at chen san ding's first, it's a good anchor point to orient yourself before diving in

Go early. Like, really early. Before sunset even. The crowds build exponentially as the evening progresses. You'll still have people, obviously, but it's manageable. Plus, some stalls might not even be open yet later.

Also, don't be afraid to venture off the main drags. There are smaller side streets with equally delicious food and way fewer people shoving you around. You'll discover hidden gems that way! (Okay, I said no hidden gems but seriously, you will). And seriously, wear comfy shoes. You'll be doing a lot of walking.

weekday night around 8:30 is actually my sweet spot, the initial dinner rush is dying down but stalls still have everything. skip the main drag entirely and walk along the canal side path instead, cuts through to the back of the market where the old school stalls are. the stinky tofu cart near the xinsheng south rd intersection is worth the detour, way less crowded than the ones in the middle of the chaos

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
