Like, are there any decent little stalls or places to grab a bite halfway up, or should I pack a whole picnic fit for a king? Seriously considering the latter, because my hiking snacks usually consist of questionable trail mix and despair. Any insider tips on sustenance would be greatly appreciated. I'm aiming for the longer, more challenging route, not the touristy one.

fwiw there's a small noodle shop about 15 minutes before the actual trailhead on lane 310, it's tucked behind a car repair place. they do a solid bowl of beef noodle soup for like 120ntd, perfect for fueling up before you start the longer route. after that you're on your own though, nothing reliable on the actual trail. i'd grab some mochi from the market near nangang station instead of 7-11 stuff, it's lighter and gives you actual energy without feeling like a brick in your stomach

yeah the other person is right about packing your own stuff but tbh you can do better than 7-11 rice balls. swing by one of the morning markets near mrt songshan or nangang before you head out and grab a couple of scallion pancakes or those big steamed buns with pork filling. they'll hold up way better in your bag and taste way better when you're sweaty and hungry around the halfway point. there's a spot near the trailhead on lane 310 of jiuwu street that does a decent bowl of beef noodles too if you want to carb load before starting the longer route. just don't count on anything past the first 20 minutes of walking, it's pretty much just trees and rocks after that

honestly just pack your own food. there's a small temple near the top that sometimes has someone selling tea eggs and water but it's not reliable and definitely not enough for a proper meal. i'd grab a couple of those triangle rice balls from 7-11 before you head out, they're easy to carry and don't get squished. the longer route is beautiful but pretty isolated once you're past the first kilometer or so, no stalls up there

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
