The brochure said something about ancient inscriptions...but I couldn't find any! Spent hours crawling around, got absolutely covered in bat guano. Seriously, was it all a big tourist hoax? Or am I just blind as a bat? Anyone else have this experience? Did I miss something obvious?

I've done that cave three times now and the inscriptions are definitely there, just not where you'd expect. The main chamber has nothing, but if you go during a weekday morning around 10am the light hits the back wall in a specific way that makes the faint carvings visible. They're not some grand ancient mystery though, just some Qing dynasty merchant's name and a date, probably from the 1800s. The bats are the real attraction if you ask me, watching them funnel out at dusk from the park across the street is way more impressive than those scratches.

ngl i lived in taipei for 3 years and never even heard of this cave until now. i think the real mystery is why they put it on a brochure lol. if you want actual old carvings go to the beitou hot spring museum, they have some japanese era stuff that's way easier to spot and zero bat poop

yeah the third reply's got it right, the side tunnel is easy to miss. i went with a friend who knew about it and we still walked past it twice. the carvings are more like scratches than inscriptions tbh, you really gotta squint with a good light. if you go back, bring a headlamp from one of those outdoor shops near taipei main station, costs like 200 twd and saves your hands for crawling

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
