Anyone been recently? What's the best mosquito repellent to bring? I'm thinking full body armor at this point. Seriously considering a hazmat suit. My last hike ended with me looking like I wrestled a swarm of angry gnats... and lost. Hoping to avoid that this time.

fwiw the key is actually avoiding the low sections near the creek at the base, that's where the breeding grounds are. once you hit the switchbacks around the 400m mark it's way more manageable. I just go with the cheap Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor spray from 7-11, it's like 80NT and works fine for me. long pants tucked into socks is non-negotiable though, learned that the hard way last summer

honestly the mosquitoes are brutal but its mostly the first stretch after the trailhead near the tiled staircase that gets you. once you get past the bamboo grove and up onto the ridge the wind usually keeps em away. i swear by the local brand "Jungle Formula" from the PX Mart near Xingtian Temple, it smells like industrial solvent but it actually works better than anything i've tried. wear light colors too, dark clothes are basically a target

Yeah, Jiuwushan mosquitoes are no joke. I went a couple months ago and it was brutal. DEET is your friend, the higher percentage, the better. Don't skimp. I used OFF! Deep Woods, and even then, I got nailed. Long sleeves and pants are a must, even if it's hot. Consider a mosquito net for your head if you're really worried, it might seem crazy, but it's better than being eaten alive. Honestly, the views are amazing, so it's worth the battle, but be prepared for war.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
