I've heard the views are incredible, but I'm a little worried about the crowds, pictures online look packed! Any tips on getting a less crowded viewpoint, or even a better time to go for a quieter sunrise experience? Maybe a less-known trail? I'm fairly fit but not an extreme hiker. It'll be my first time there, so any advice from locals or seasoned hikers would be amazing.

Weekday is the move, but also check the lunar calendar. If you go right after a full moon, the moon is still high and bright when you're hiking up, you won't even need the headlamp until you hit the treeline. That's my favorite trick, the trail feels totally different when it's silver instead of black.

For a quieter spot, skip the ridgeline entirely and head to the old lookout near the abandoned military post, it's about 15 minutes past the main pavilion on the far side. It's not on any map and the path is a bit overgrown, but you'll get the sunrise over the ocean with zero selfie sticks. Just wear long pants, there's some tall grass that'll scratch your legs.

One thing nobody mentions, the shuttle from Ruifang station is way less packed than the one from the parking lot. Locals use it, so it runs on time and drops you at the trailhead before the tourist buses even arrive. Grab a breakfast roll from the stall at the station, eating something warm on the ridge while the sun comes up beats standing there hungry.

honestly the crowds are mainly at the very top near the pavilion, but if u go 15-20 min before sunrise and post up slightly below on the ridgeline facing east, u get a way better angle anyway with the city lights fading. i'd skip the main trailhead and go up via the erziping side if u can, it's a bit longer but way less packed, takes maybe 50 min vs 30. also weekdays are night and day, if ur flexible aim for a tuesday or wednesday, even the shuttle lot is half empty. bring a headlamp and a windbreaker, that ridge gets gusty even in summer.

The key is timing, not just location. Go on a weekday, sure, but also check the sunrise time and aim to be on the trail about 80 minutes before it. That gets you up top with the early birds, but before the shuttle buses dump the big groups. The real trick is to hang around 10-15 minutes after the sun actually crests, most people snap a photo and bolt down, leaving the ridge nearly empty for the last bit of golden light. If you want to avoid the main crush entirely, the walk from the Jiufen side up the old mining road is longer and rougher, but it puts you on the southern edge of the ridge where you get the sea on one side and the mountains on the other, a completely different vibe from the pavilion crowd. Just bring good shoes, that path has loose gravel in places.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
