Heard the night markets are legendary... but I'm a bit of a picky eater, mostly into weird stuff, honestly. Any recommendations for truly unique street food stalls beyond the usual suspects? I wanna try something only a local would know about, something totally off the beaten path. Like, the kind of thing that gives you that "only in Taipei" moment. I'm thinking adventurous, maybe a little weird, definitely delicious.

imo skip the obvious stuff and hit up the little stall cluster on ningbo east street near the eastern side of the memorial hall. there's this one cart that does "dan bing" but it's not the normal breakfast version, they wrap it around a thick slab of mochi and add crushed peanuts and cilantro, it's chewy and savory and sweet all at once. also if you see a guy selling "liang mian" with a spicy sesame sauce from a cooler on a bike, grab it, it's cold noodles but the texture is way different from what you'd expect, almost bouncy. that's the kind of random weird you won't find in any guidebook

ngl if you want weird, skip the markets and find a stall selling ji jiang (chicken gizzard) skewers near the qingguang market area on luosifu road. there's a lady there who grills them with a heavy cumin and chili rub, super chewy and smoky. also keep an eye out for "turtle jelly" or guilinggao at any old-school herb shop, it's a bitter jelly made from turtle shell and herbs, weird texture but locals swear by it for cooling down

honestly if you're in zhongzheng, look for the snake alley vendors near nanjichang night market. not for everyone but the snake soup or blood drinks are that "only in taipei" weirdness you want. also the old dude near zhongzheng memorial hall who sells pig blood cake with a side of pickled radish is super lowkey and always a hit

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
