The street itself is pretty unremarkable during the day, but I heard whispers from locals about a hidden speakeasy or something tucked away down a particularly unassuming alley. I searched high and low, but couldn't find anything, not a single sign, nothing. It was like it vanished! Anyone know anything about this? Was I hallucinating, or is there a secret society operating out of Mingshui Rd??

nah you're not hallucinating, there's def a hidden bar vibe on Mingshui but it's super easy to miss. there's this place called Ounce behind a fake storefront that looks like a vintage clothing shop, the entrance is literally a bookshelf. it's on the quieter end near the intersection with Zhongshan North Rd, not right by the night market chaos. cover charge is like 500 TWD on weekends and they don't do walk-ins after 9pm, gotta reserve on their IG or something.

honestly i think youre overthinking it. theres a tiny alley off mingshui closer to the jiantan mrt side that has a few old-school tea houses that double as bars after 10pm. no sign, just a red lantern and a wooden door that looks like someones apartment. i walked past it like 5 times before i noticed. the owner is this older guy who doesnt speak much english but makes a killer oolong old fashioned. 600 TWD for two drinks and its way less pretentious than the instagram spots.

Sounds like you're chasing a ghost story! Mingshui Rd is pretty dense, especially near Shilin. Lots of tiny alleys that look identical. Maybe it's one of those places that only opens on certain nights, or only to people in the know. Or maybe, just maybe, you did hallucinate. It happens, especially after a long day of navigating Shilin's crowds. Did you happen to be... ahem... enjoying any local beverages before your search? Just sayin'.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
