I started early, like, ridiculously early, to beat the crowds and the heat. But man, the last bit of the climb... killer. My legs were screaming. I saw some pretty cool monkeys though, totally worth the pain. I'm wondering though, anyone know of any less strenuous trails with similar views? I'd love to go back, but maybe something a little less... intense next time.

fwiw there's a solid middle ground trail up to the top of qixing mountain in yangmingshan. it's longer than elephant mountain but way more gradual than jiuwushan, mostly switchbacks through forest so you're in the shade most of the time. the payoff is this huge caldera view that feels completely different from the city skyline, plus you can stop at the cold water creek on the way down to cool your feet. takes about 90 minutes if you're not rushing

elephant mountain is fine but gets packed, try the hike up to nangang mountain instead. it's a gentler climb than jiuwushan, takes maybe 40 minutes, and you get a solid view of the 101 and the mountains behind. the trailhead is right off of yanping east road, near the nangang mrt station. way fewer people up there too

honestly, you could try Xiangshan, it's the same general area but way easier. The view of the city is still great, just not the same sweeping valley panorama. Or if you want something totally different but still nice, the trails around Daan Park are flat and chill, they're just not mountain views.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
