I've heard whispers of incredible little tea houses tucked away in its backstreets, the kind you only stumble upon if you know where to look. My question is: are there any local guides or maps that reveal these secret spots? I'm hoping to avoid the heavily trafficked areas and experience something truly authentic. I've already booked my flight and hotel, but truly immersive experiences are hard to come by online. Any tips from someone who knows the area well would be much appreciated

fwiw, theres a small alley off Nanji Road near Dongmen Station that has a couple of really old-school tea houses. No sign in english, just a red lantern. The owners are usually happy to chat if you show genuine interest. Also, if u walk down Heping West Road toward the botanical garden, turn right before the main gate there's a lane with a few hidden gems that dont show up on any map. That area at night is way calmer than the touristy bits.

Honestly, forget about formal guides. Those things are usually pretty generic. Taipei's charm is in getting lost. Wander around the areas near Longshan Temple, you'll find some amazing little tea houses and food stalls just by exploring. Don't be afraid to go down side streets that look interesting. The best discoveries are always accidental.

Also, check out some local blogs written in Chinese (even if you don't read it, Google Translate can often get the gist, and the photos are usually amazing). They sometimes feature places not yet discovered by the usual tourist crowd. Happy exploring!

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
