I've heard whispers of incredible hidden street food stalls tucked away in these tiny alleyways, the kind that only locals know about. My friend, who lived there for years, described these amazing places, but was super vague. They said it's all about the vibe and the adventure of stumbling upon them. Are there any resources, like local blogs or forums (not TripAdvisor!), that might give me a better idea of where to find these elusive culinary gems? I really want to experience the real Zhongzheng, not just the glossy surface.

tbh the taipei eaters group is solid but i'd also check out the "xiao chih" tag on instagram. just search 中正區小吃 and you'll get a ton of random posts from locals showing their lunch. the real trick is going around nanmen market at like 10am on a weekday, there's a lady in the alley next to the flower shop who does these insane hand-cut noodles with sesame sauce, only like 60nt. no english sign, just a red tarp. if you see a queue of office workers in collared shirts, that's the spot

honestly, the best resource i've found is the taipei eaters facebook group. not the flashy foodie pages, just people posting phone pics of their $50nt lunch. search "zhongzheng lunch specials" or "nanmen market eats" in there. also, walk around the backstreets behind the taipei main station, around huayin street. there's a guy who only sells scallion pancakes from 2-4pm and he's been there 30 years, no sign no nothing. just follow the old ladies with shopping bags

yeah the nanmen market stuff is legit but also check out the alley behind the police station on zhongxiao west road, around section 1. there's this tiny place that only does beef noodle soup from 1130 til they sell out, usually by 1pm. no name, just a blue awning and a guy with a mustache. i found it on a random chinese blog called "台北小吃地圖" (taipei snack map), it's not updated super often but the old posts are gold. use google translate on it

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
