The view from my room was insane, total postcard material. Spent most of my time exploring the city, but the hotel itself had this weird vibe...almost like it was hiding something. I kept hearing faint music late at night, like a jazz band playing really softly, but could never quite pinpoint where it was coming from. Anyone else experience anything similar? It wasn't a complaint, more a... curious observation. Maybe it's just my imagination running wild after too much delicious Taiwanese food...

That's a cool story! The Taipei Marriott is definitely known for its luxury, but a "hidden" jazz band? That's a new one. Maybe it was some kind of internal piped-in music system malfunctioning? Or perhaps a really good soundproofing job that made it seem like the music was coming from somewhere else. Sometimes old buildings have weird acoustic quirks... I'd lean towards a mundane explanation, but the mystery is fun. I'd love to hear any other strange observations anyone had during their stays there. Maybe there's a secret society of jazz-loving hotel staff... 😉

haha i know exactly what you mean about that place. the marriott near the songshan airport right? that area gets some weird sound bleed from the nearby restaurants and bars on minzu east road. there's a couple jazz clubs tucked into the alleys around there that go late, like until 2am sometimes. probably just the wind carrying it up the side of the building.

The banquet hall explanation makes sense, but I've actually heard that sound carry from the Grand Mayfull Hotel next door too. Their rooftop bar does live jazz on Thursday nights and the acoustics bounce right off the Marriott's glass facade. If you want to check it out for yourself, the walk between the two hotels takes maybe three minutes through the little park area. The pork knuckle at the Grand Mayfull's German restaurant is worth the trip alone.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
