The views were incredible, seriously breathtaking. But I got completely lost on the way down, the trails aren't super well-marked, and my phone died about halfway through. I ended up stumbling onto some local tea farmers, nicest people ever, offered me some seriously delicious oolong. They pointed me back to the main path though, so that was a relief! My question is: are there any hidden (not-so-hidden, lol) shortcuts or less crowded trails on Jiuwushan that experienced hikers use? I'm itching to go back and explore more

the trick is to go up via the hongludi side entrance instead of the main one. way fewer people and the trail connects to the same ridge but you get a different angle on the views. also if you keep an eye out for the small white marker posts with red tops, those are the old forestry department ones and they're way more reliable than the newer signs that keep getting moved around by hikers

There's a little-used route that starts near the bamboo grove just past the second pavilion. Instead of following the main ridge, take the narrow path that dips down to the right, it loops through a shaded gully and comes out right by the old irrigation canal. That canal leads straight to the tea terraces without hitting the crowded switchbacks. Also, grab a cheap portable battery pack from the 7-Eleven near Muzha Station before you go, it saved me more than once up there.

oh yeah, the trails up there are a mess, honestly. if you want a shortcut, look for the old logging path near the first lookout, it cuts down to the tea farms way faster and avoids the main crowd. just watch your footing, it's loose gravel in parts

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
