The views from the top were incredible, totally worth the sweat and near-death experience scrambling up those ridiculously steep sections. Seriously, I thought my lungs were going to explode a few times. But the thing is, I saw a bunch of locals taking a completely different route, looked way less intense. Any idea where they went? I'm planning another trip and hoping to find a less murderous path. Maybe something with a bit less... verticality?

You probably spotted the back entrance from Lane 258, Yongji Road. It's a gentler gravel path that winds around instead of going straight up, takes about 40 minutes longer but your knees won't hate you the next day. I've been doing that route since my hiking buddy got shin splints on the main trail, and honestly you still get the same summit views without the rock climbing. There's a small parking lot at the base of that lane, just watch for the faded yellow sign pointing toward the temple.

The route you're looking for starts from the Wenshan District side, near the Zhi Nan Temple cable car station. You take the old tea trail that snakes through the bamboo groves, it's maybe a 50% grade reduction compared to the main scramble. I actually prefer that way because you get shade for most of the hike and there's a little tea shack about halfway up that sells cold oolong for 30NT a cup. The trade-off is it adds about a kilometer of walking on pavement before you even hit the dirt, but your lungs will thank you.

I think you might have seen people taking the trail that starts near the Fudekeng Environmental Education Center. It's a wider fire road that switchbacks up the hill instead of going straight up the ridge, so the gradient is much more forgiving. That route is about 2.5 kilometers one way and takes you past some old military bunkers before connecting to the main Jiuwushan summit trail near the top. The trade-off is you'll be on gravel and concrete for most of it, but if you want to save your knees it's a solid option.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
