The humidity hit me like a wall, and the air smelled...earthy. I spent ages just wandering around, the formations are unreal. Some looked like giant mushrooms, others like...well, I'm not sure, something out of a fantasy movie. There were these weird little bats flitting about, too, which was cool. I'm trying to find out though: What's the best time of year to visit Longshan Cave to avoid the massive crowds I encountered? It was packed!

weekday mornings are your best bet, especially right after the rainy season ends, like late November. the humidity is still high but the light filters through the cave openings real pretty. also, check the lunar calendar, avoid the first and fifteenth of the month, local temple pilgrims flood in then. i usually go on a tuesday around 9, barely anyone there.

oh man, yeah it gets crazy in there during holidays. if you can swing it, go on a rainy weekday instead. the cave's actually cooler then, and the mist outside makes the whole place feel more dramatic. i've had the place almost to myself on a wednesday afternoon in february, just me and the bats.

Honestly, if you want to dodge the crowds, aim for a weekday morning right when they open, say 8:30 or 9. The tour groups usually roll in after 10, so you get that damp, echoing quiet to yourself for a bit. Late October to early November is my pick, the weather's still warm but the summer school trips are gone. Also, skip the weekends entirely, the parking lot fills up fast and the walkway gets bottlenecked near the "mushroom" formations.

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
