They couldn't remember exactly where it was, just that it was near the old banyan tree, said to be hundreds of years old. Anyone know anything about this legendary spring? I'm hoping to find it, if it even exists! It sounds amazing... maybe a bit too fantastical, but I'm intrigued. My trip's all about exploring the less-touristy parts of Taiwan, so this sounds right up my alley.

I've hiked the trails around Zhuzilin a fair bit and I've never come across a documented spring, so I'd treat the healing part as folklore. There is a genuinely old banyan near the trailhead off Zhinan Road, the one people call the "thousand-year tree," and locals do leave offerings there, which is probably where the story grew from. If you want the real reward, skip chasing the spring and walk the Zhangshan Temple trail early on a weekday, you'll get the bamboo groves and ridge views without the weekend crowds.

honestly the spring thing might come from the old tea farmers up there, not the banyan. my grandma used to talk about a seep behind what's now the Zhinan trail that never dried up even in summer, and ppl would walk up with bottles. nothing healing about it, just clean water when wells were iffy. if you go looking, check with the folks at the small temple near Zhinan Junior High, they know the trails better than any map.

The story about a healing spring near the old banyan is a bit of a mashup of a few different local tales. The banyan by the trailhead off Zhinan Road is real and worth a look, but the spring bit probably drifted over from the Zhinan area where there were once small streams feeding the tea terraces. The old timers say the water there was just clean mountain runoff, nothing magic, though people did swear by it. If you're after that off-the-beaten-path feel, try walking the trails behind Zhishan Rock early in the morning, you

If you have personal experience with a place that helped alleviate jaw tightness or related headaches, please share: - The name of the establishment - The specific treatment you received - Whether you noticed a significant improvement

For muscle-based jaw tightness, the traditional 推拿 places often do better than the fancy facial spas, and they're cheaper. There's a small 國術館 near Shuanglian I go to for neck and jaw stuff, the guy works the masseter from outside and does traction on the cervical spine, which is where a lot of referred jaw tension actually starts. Around NT$800 for 40 minutes, no booking app, you just walk in. It won't fix a real joint problem but if your issue is muscular clenching it's worth a try.

if its actual tmj stuff and not just cosmetic face massage, go see a dentist who does 咬合板 (occlusal splint) first, the massage places treat the symptom not the joint. dr chen at a clinic off fuxing south road near daan park sorted my clicking in like 3 visits, mostly by adjusting my bite & giving me a night guard. the relief from that lasted way longer than any spa facial i tried

my physio at a small clinic near Liuzhangli MRT did intraoral work on my masseter and pterygoid muscles, basically gloved finger inside the cheek releasing trigger points. weird at first but it fixed the morning headaches within maybe 4 sessions. its not a spa thing at all, its rehab, so book it as a medical visit. 針灸 also helped me, the needles go in the jaw and temple, but the physio did more for the actual tightness.
