How can I study at SNU Internationally?

I have plans to begin studying Korean and learn Korean on my own until Senior year, which will hopefully allow me to reach a fluency level that's high enough. I'm hoping to study medicine/psychology or neurology in college, and I can currently mock a 1580 SAT score and a 35 ACT. But, in the future, I want to move to Korea and study in Korea. (I'm Korean, but I live in America.) My parents don't speak it, so I'd have to learn it on my own. How difficult would it be for me to go to SNU? I'm hoping to get an internship this summer at a hospital shadowing a current neurosurgeon (he said he'd get back to me, so it's probable(?)), and I'll hopefully be able to get leadership positions throughout high school. I currently average A's, and I'm in pre-calculus as a freshman. The only issue is that at the beginning of the school year I got sent to an alternative school (didn't drop any of my honors/AP classes, currently only in honors/AP classes) due to an accident (...cybersecurity breach, it wasn't my fault). How much more work would I need to do, should I rather focus on heading somewhere else?

honestly your stats are solid but SNU med is a whole different beast. korean fluency is gonna be your biggest hurdle cause the med program is taught in korean and the entrance exam (수능) is brutal even for native speakers. most international students at SNU do english-track programs in engineering or business, not medicine.

have u looked into Yonsei or Korea University? they have more established international programs and still great reputations. also check out SNU's Global Korea Scholarship route - they sometimes accept students through that with lower korean requirements. the alternative school thing prob won't matter if u explain it well in your application essay.

one thing nobody tells u - SNU dorm housing near Gwanak campus is really hard to get as a freshman. my friend waited a whole semester for a spot. start looking at goshiwons in Nakseongdae or Bongcheon early if u get in.

tbh your SAT/ACT scores are solid but SNU med is gonna be a grind even for fluent speakers. the 수능 science section is no joke and you'd need TOPIK level 6 minimum for the korean-taught courses. have u checked if SNU even offers medicine in english? pretty sure most pre-med tracks there are fully in korean.

since u already have Korean heritage, consider looking into the 재외국민 전형 (overseas korean admission track) - it's a separate application process with different requirements than regular international admission. way less competitive and they expect some korean ability but not native fluency. i know a few gyopo students who got in through that route with lower topik scores than u'd need for general admission.

also fair warning - SNU's campus is way up in Gwanak-gu which is kinda isolated. if u want more of a city vibe, Yonsei's Sinchon campus is right in the action. not saying don't go for SNU, just something to keep in mind when u visit campuses later.

You've got great stats but SNU is really competitive for international students even with those scores.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
