I messed up bad and didn't realise I had to update my new passport until now that I have to extend my visa... it was issued in January of 2023...
I saw somewhere that they'll make you pay 100,000won for every 44 missed days. If true, I'll be fined 1,000,000won :(

honestly just go in person and be super apologetic about it. the fine depends on the officer and your attitude more than anything else. i had a friend on an E2 visa who forgot for 10 months and they only made her pay 200,000 won at the Sejong immigration office. she brought her old passport and a letter explaining she was busy with work. the 100k per 44 days thing is mostly a threat they use for people who are rude or clearly trying to hide something. if youre a student with no other violations theyll prob go easy on you. just dont go to the main Seoul office at Jongno if you can avoid it, Mokdong is usually less crowded and the officers are more chill.

yeah dont stress too much about the exact calculation, that 100k per 44 days thing is more of a scare tactic than actual policy. i forgot to update my passport for about 8 months when i was on a D4 visa and they just gave me a 150,000 won fine at the Hapjeong immigration center. make sure you bring a copy of your old passport too, not just the new one, they always want to see the entry stamp history. if you go early on a weekday, like right when they open at 9, the officers are usually in a better mood and more willing to negotiate down.

the n37 bus tip is gold, i've used it more times than i can count. one thing i'd add for the hongdae crowd is that if you're into the indie scene, skip club ff and go to strange fruit instead, it's a tiny basement venue off the main drag that books local punk and shoegaze bands for like 5k won cover. the sound system is janky but the energy is way more authentic than the tourist-heavy spots. also for gangnam, the line at octagon can hit 30 minutes on weekends so get there before 11pm or just go to arena which is less crowded imo
