My question is: are those views actually as good as everyone says, or is it more of a "partially obscured by other buildings" kinda deal? I'm really hoping for that iconic palace shot for my Instagram... because let's be honest, that's why I'm even going to Seoul in the first place. It's a total bucket list moment, you know?

ngl the real move is to skip the hotel room view entirely and head to the rooftop of the seoul finance center building, it's like a 7 minute walk south on Sejong-daero and the glass elevator up to the 50th floor is free. you get the whole palace from above plus the han river in the distance, way better than fighting with hotel windows. bring a zoom lens tho, the palace looks small from up there but the framing is insane. also if ur there at sunset the light hits the bukaksan mountain behind the palace and it's pure gold hour magic

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

honestly the view from the hotel is fine but not worth the hype for a bucket list shot. if you want that iconic instagram angle, just walk across the street to the palace entrance itself or even better, head up to the rooftop of the seoul global cultural center near anguk station. it's free and you get a straight-on view without any buildings in the way. the hotel rooms that face north might catch a glimpse but you're competing with trees and the modern buildings on the left side. save your money for a nice dinner at tolog in samcheongdong instead, their 창문 view is way more romantic

parking's actually the real headache around there, not the view. if you're driving or taking a taxi, have them drop you at the intersection of Hyoja-ro and Jahamun-ro and walk the last block, saves you 15 minutes of one-way street loops. but for your actual question, the hotel's north-facing rooms on floor 5 are decent but the glass has a weird green tint that messes with white balance, so you'll spend more time editing than you'd think. better bet is to walk out the front door, cross Sejong-daero, and stand right in front of the National Folk Museum's main entrance. that angle gives you the palace's eastern wall with the mountain behind it, no trees, no cars, and the light hits it perfectly around 10am. also the museum's courtyard has these stone pagodas that make for a good foreground element if you crouch down and shoot upward

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
