The location was great, easy walk to Gyeongbokgung Palace. My question is: what's the best time of day to see the palace grounds without the massive tourist crowds? I got some amazing photos, but it was a bit of a scrum at times. Seriously though, the hotel was comfy and the staff were super friendly. But those crowds...ugh.

honestly the trick is going on a weekday right at 9am opening, not later. most tour buses dont roll in until 10ish so you get a solid hour. also check if youre there during the free hanbok rental thing cus that pulls in way more people on weekends. fwiw the east side near the pond is way quieter than the main throne hall area even at peak times.

one thing nobody mentions is the side gates. the main entrance at Gwanghwamun is where everyone piles in but you can also enter from the east via the National Folk Museum side and its usually way less hectic. also tbh the crowds cluster around the throne hall and Gyeonghoeru pavilion, so if you walk past those toward the northern area near Geoncheonggung you'll basically have it to yourself even at 11am. thats where the good shots are anyway.

midweek around 3 to 4pm is kinda the sweet spot nobody talks about, the morning groups are gone and its too early for the sunset crowd. another thing, buy your ticket on the machine not the counter line, saves you 20 min right there. check teh royal tomb behind the palace too, barely anyone goes back there

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
