We're all pretty rusty, haven't played proper football in ages. My question is: how's the pitch usually? Is it well-maintained, or should we expect divots the size of small craters? I've heard mixed things about the condition of the public pitches in Seoul, and I really don't want to end up with a sprained ankle five minutes in. It would ruin the entire trip... Hoping it's decent, cuz I really wanna show off my, uh... less-than-stellar skills.

yeah the pitch at ichon is solid enough for a casual game, but tbh the real hidden gem is the little grassy patch behind the bleachers on the south side. it's less crowded and the ground is way softer, almost like a mini training pitch. only downside is it's not marked for football so you'll have to eyeball the boundaries. also if you're bringing beer, the gs25 two blocks east on yongsan-daero has a better selection than the riverfront kiosk, plus they sell those big ice bags for your cooler

honestly the ichon field is one of the better ones along the river, not as beat up as yeouido or mapo. they actually resurfaced it a couple years back so the ground is firmer than most public pitches around here. just watch out for the corners near the goalposts, that's where the grass tends to thin out cuz everyone shoots from teh same spot. you'll be fine to show off your skills, just maybe skip the fancy slide tackles

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

the field is fine for a casual game, tbh the bigger headache is the wind off the river. if you're going in the afternoon it can get gusty and mess with long passes, keeps everyone on their toes though. also the bathrooms at that section are hit or miss, there's a convenience store a 5 min walk north that's better for a pit stop

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
