honestly just stayed there last month and the view is as good as the photos if you book a deluxe palace view room. the standard rooms are a total scam for the view, they face the back alley by the samcheong-dong entrance. for sunrise i'd go up to the rooftop lounge instead of your room, it's open 24/7 and you get the full spread of the palace with bukaksan mountain behind it. noise wasn't bad for me but i was on the 9th floor, the street level rooms prob catch more of the taxis honking at the intersection. one thing nobody mentions is the bathroom situation, the shower pressure is weak on upper floors so dont expect a strong stream after a long day walking around insadong
yo i live a few blocks from there. the view's real but only if you're on the seoul direction side, the other side faces a bunch of office buildings. sunrise shots work best around 6:30am in winter when the mist sits low over the palace grounds. for noise, the rooms are fine but the elevator dings loud in the hallway at night, bring earplugs if you're picky. actually prefer the hanok village guesthouses nearby if you want quiet, but the IP's a good tradeoff for the price

The higher floors, like 8 and above, make a big difference because the trees and walls don't block it as much. For sunrise, you'll want to wake up early anyway since the palace grounds don't open until 9, but the light hitting the roofs from your window is still worth it.
Noise-wise, the double-glazing handles street traffic fine, but you might hear the occasional bus or delivery truck if you're a light sleeper. I'd recommend requesting a room on the Anguk-dong side rather than facing Jongno, the main road, because that street quiets down after 10 PM. The IP's a solid pick for the price, just avoid the standard rooms on lower floors if you care about the view.

honestly the guide nailed most of it but i gotta shout out the ssamgyeopsal at samwon garden in apgujeong. it's pricier than mapo alley but the pork belly is thick cut and they grill it over charcoal which makes a huge difference. also if you're at gwangjang market don't skip the mayak gimbap, it's those tiny seaweed rolls with carrot and spinach, three bucks for a tray and they're dangerously addictive
one thing the guide missed is sundae (korean blood sausage) at the gwangjang market stall near the main entrance. it's like 3,000 won and they serve it with salt and peppers, really underrated street food. also for the bamdokkaebi night market try to go on a friday when there's more food trucks, saturdays get packed with families and the lines get ridiculous
