Heard whispers about these super secretive student clubs, apparently, they've been around for ages, pulling off crazy pranks and having legendary parties. Anyone know the real scoop on these things? Like, how do you even join? Is it all shrouded in mystery, or is there a secret handshake I should be practicing? I'm picturing something out of a K-drama... intense initiation rituals, hidden meeting spots, the whole shebang. Seriously, is there a "best" club to try and get into, or is it all just random luck? Hoping to avoid becoming the awkward newbie who gets pranked relentlessly...

ngl the whole secret society thing is more about who you drink with than any grand mystery. there's a group that's been meeting at the same pojangmacha tent near the back gate since the 80s, the ahjussi who runs it will tell you stories if you order the tteokbokki and actually listen. that's prob the closest you'll get to an initiation, just sitting there while someone rambles about the time they hid the dean's office key in 1997. if you want in, don't go looking for a specific club, just pick a spot and keep showing up until you're part of the furniture

fwiw the coffee shop thing is legit but I'd also check out the basement of the science building around 6pm on fridays. there's a group that meets there, no official name or anything, just a bunch of students who've been doing weird traditions since the 90s. they're the ones who put a snowman on top of the statue outside the main gate last winter. joining is literally just showing up with a bottle of soju and sitting down, someone will eventually ask what your major is and that's basically the interview

The fountain prank the other person mentioned is real, I've seen it turn bright pink twice. The groups are less about secrecy and more about tradition, they've just been around long enough that new members find them through friends of friends. If you want in, the key is showing up consistently at the student union cafe near the main gate, the one with the terrible coffee. That's where the older members hang out and they'll notice if you're around enough to start a conversation. The initiation stuff is mostly singing badly or doing a silly walk across campus, not the intense ritual you're imagining.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
