Dog-Friendly Eats?

I've seen pics online, looks adorable! But seriously, is the food actually good, or is it just a gimmick for Insta-worthy pics? I'm hoping for more than just overpriced pupcakes. I need sustenance, too!

ngl most of those themed spots near city hall are a letdown for actual eating. the ones that look super instagrammable usually have sad sandwiches and overpriced lemonade. but there's a place called bau house a bit north near jongno 3-ga station that does proper korean lunch sets, like bulgogi with banchan, and they have a separate menu for dogs with actual steamed chicken and sweet potato. princess fluffybutt iii might like that more than a pupcake anyway.

oh if you're near city hall with a poodle, try the rooftop at seoul square basement level instead of the actual themed spots. there's a little korean diner called somunnan that does a killer dolsot bibimbap and the stone bowl keeps it hot while you juggle princess fluffybutt iii on your lap. they don't have a dog menu but the ajumma will bring out a saucer of plain egg if you ask nicely, and the whole meal's under 8,000 won. way better than paying 12,000 for a cold sandwich and a pupcake that tastes like cardboard

honestly if you're near city hall, skip the themed places and head to tongyeongga in seogye-dong instead. it's a few stops away but the japchae and grilled mackerel are legit, and they let dogs sit on the chairs if they're well-behaved. princess fluffybutt iii can chill on the cushion while you eat real food for like 12,000 won a plate. the themed spots near city hall tend to microwave everything and charge 8,000 won for a sad piece of cake.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
