But I got completely lost trying to find a less crowded trail down. Spent like, three hours wandering around before stumbling onto a family picnic. They were super nice, pointed me in the right direction. Anyone know of any hidden, well-marked trails that don't involve potentially getting eaten by wild boar?

yeah the trails near the SNU entrance are solid but if you want even quieter, try the one that starts from the back of the Gwanak Reservoir parking lot. it's a dirt path that follows a small stream up, no crowds at all, and the markers are these faded orange dots on the trees. takes you up to the ridge near the old military bunker, which is a cool spot to sit and watch the city lights. just bring a map on your phone cause the orange dots disappear in the fall when leaves cover everything

The family picnic spot you found is probably near the Yeonjudae pavilion, that's a common lost-hiker meetup point. If you want a proper less crowded route, start from the Seoul National University entrance instead of the main one at Gwacheon. The trail up from behind the SNU gymnasium is well-marked with yellow ribbons and connects to the ridge without the tourist stampede. Just watch your step near the rock scrambles after the rain, that section gets slick.

honestly the wild boar thing is overblown, they're more scared of you than anything. but if you want a proper hidden route, try the one that cuts through the back of the Anyang Art Park. it's a bit of a drive but the trailhead is at the end of a residential street, no signs in english, just a small wooden post with korean writing. it loops around the west side of the mountain and spits you out near the Gwanak 3 tunnel, takes about 2 hours and you'll maybe see 3 people the whole time. bring a headlamp tho, that last section before the tunnel gets dark fast even at like 4pm this time of year

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
