honestly the most "secretive" group i know at sogang is the one that takes care of the rooftop garden on the science building. they're super quiet about it because the administration technically doesn't know they're up there. i stumbled into it once during exam season and it's just a bunch of students growing peppers and herbs in old plastic bottles. they share the harvest at the end of each semester. that's about as underground as it gets here.

for unique stuff, the hiking club does overnight trips to bukhan mountain that most people don't know about because they never post flyers. just show up at the student lounge in the arrupe building on a friday afternoon and ask around. the hidden study spot by the music practice rooms is legit but everyone knows about it now, try the fourth floor of the thomas more building instead, there's a reading room that looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 80s and nobody goes there. the student cafes near the west gate have the better vibe but the ones on daeheung-ro have the cheaper lunch sets. just don't trust anyone who invites you to a "private meeting" at a noraebang in sinchon, that's the real cult initiation lol

imo the whole secret society thing at sogang is just a game of telephone that got out of hand. there's this one group that does midnight film screenings in the basement of the arrupe building, they call themselves the "cinema underground" but it's literally just film majors showing old korean movies on a projector they found. they're not exactly secret, they just don't advertise because the room technically isn't theirs to use. if you hang around the art department long enough someone will prob whisper an invite

the hidden study spots are real but the best one is the little courtyard behind the gonzaga chapel, it's got these stone benches that are always empty because everyone forgets it exists. the library has those glass study pods that are nice but they get booked instantly, your better bet is the old reading room in the thomas more building that still has those green desk lamps from the 70s. the student cafes on daeheung-ro are good but if you walk five minutes toward sinchon there's a place that does 2,500 won kimbap and the ajumma will remember your order after the second visit

just stay away from any club that asks for a membership fee in cash or wants to meet at a location that changes every week. the philosophy club is fine, the candle drawing thing is fine, but there's a "business networking" group that meets at a coffee shop near hongdae that is definitely a multilevel

the n37 bus tip is gold, i've used it more times than i can count. one thing i'd add for the hongdae crowd is that if you're into the indie scene, skip club ff and go to strange fruit instead, it's a tiny basement venue off the main drag that books local punk and shoegaze bands for like 5k won cover. the sound system is janky but the energy is way more authentic than the tourist-heavy spots. also for gangnam, the line at octagon can hit 30 minutes on weekends so get there before 11pm or just go to arena which is less crowded imo

yeah this is a really good breakdown, especially pointing out the cover charge differences which a lot of people dont think about. one thing i'd add is that if you're in hongdae and wanna avoid the cover altogether, walk a block or two off the main street towards the yeonnam-dong area, there's a strip of tiny bars like the vinyl and soju place that's basically just a dude's apartment with records, no cover and soju is like 3k won. also for gangnam, the subway stops running around midnight but the bus from gangnam station to sinsa runs all night, way easier than fighting for a taxi. the dress code tip is real though, i saw a guy get turned away from octagon for wearing air force ones once
