ngl if you want something that feels less like a tourist hike and more like you're in a kdrama, go to inwangsan. it's right by gyeongbokgung and the trail has these cool fortress walls and rock formations that make you feel like you're in a different century. takes about 90 mins to the top and the view of the city from the shrine is honestly better than bukhansan for photos. just watch your step on the way down, some sections are steep af and the rocks get slick after rain
honestly if you want a solid hike without fighting crowds, try ansan in seodaemun. it's got these cool little shrines tucked into the trees and the trail is mostly shaded so it's bearable even in summer heat. takes about an hour from ansan station and you can grab some ddeokbokki from those street carts near the exit after. the view from the top looks straight over to bukhansan so you still get that mountain vibe without the 3 hour commitment
the bukhansan baegundae peak is the classic route but it gets stupid crowded by 9am on weekends. if you want actual quiet with good views, try the dobongsan section instead - same national park but way less tourist traffic, and the rock formations are more dramatic imo. just take line 1 to dobongsan station and follow the signs up to the temple

yeah the guide covers it well but one thing i'd mention is that if you're traveling with a group of 3 or 4, a regular taxi from the airport to central seoul can actually be cheaper per person than the express train and way more convenient. split 60k won four ways and it's only 15k each, plus no hauling luggage through the station. just make sure they use the meter or you'll get ripped off
