Kept dropping out, super slow. I tried everything, restarting my phone, complaining to the front desk (they were nice, but no help), even using my data. It was bad enough I couldn't even post decent pics to Insta. Seriously, what's the deal with the internet connection there? Is it always this wonky or did I just get unlucky?

weird, usually hotel wifi in seoul is decent but some of the older buildings have terrible wiring. i'd bet it's that specific hotel, especially if it's in one of those renovated 80s buildings near city hall that look fancy but have ancient infrastructure. next time try the lotte hotel in myeongdong, their business floor wifi is actually fast enough for video calls and they have ethernet ports in the rooms too

fwiw i think hotel wifi in seoul is a total crapshoot regardless of how fancy the place looks. my buddy works at a five star in gangnam and he says the backend network is literally from like 2015, they just never upgraded. ur best bet is tethering off ur phone with a prepaid sim, sk telecom or kt have killer speeds and it's like 20 bucks for a month

honestly it might just be that hotel. i've stayed at a few places in jongno and myeongdong where the wifi was fine, but some of these newer "luxury" hotels cheap out on the network gear. next time try the l7 or the hongdae backpackers place, they actually have solid connections. worst case grab a eg sim card at the airport, 30 days of data is like 30,000 won and it's way faster than hotel wifi anyway

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
