The paths all looked the same! I finally stumbled upon a small tea house, the most beautiful little place, tucked away, with the most amazing views. But my phone was dead, and I couldn't figure out how to get back to the main paths. Seriously, how many secret tea houses are there hidden within this sprawling park?!

haha yeah Namsan does that to you. the tea house you found is prob the one near the old fortress wall, not the one everyone posts on instagram. if your phone dies again just follow the stone steps downhill, they all lead to either the cable car station or the botanical garden. the path along the fortress wall is actually the fastest way back to hangangjin station if you know where to turn

ngl the tea house you found is probably on the way to the botanical garden, that's the smaller one with the wooden deck. most tourists end up at the one right by the cable car exit which is way more crowded. if you go back, take the path that runs along the fortress wall, it's the most direct route back down to myeongdong station

That's the charm of Namsan, the paths all blend together after a while. If you find yourself up there again, look for the signs pointing toward the N Seoul Tower, they're pretty reliable even from the smaller trails. The tea house you found is likely one of the quieter ones near the middle, most people stick to the ones closer to the cable car station so you got lucky.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
