Planning something for New Year's Eve 2025?

First time in Seoul, looking for a nice bar for countdown. Vibey but not too crazy crowded, any recommendations?

Check out some of the rooftop bars in the Itaewon area. They often have great New Year's Eve events, good views, and a decent balance of atmosphere and crowd size. Book ahead though, it's Seoul, things fill up fast.

fmd_good Mok-dong Baseball Stadium

Mok-dong Mystery

So I went to this old baseball stadium, right by the river. The atmosphere was electric, even though it was a minor league game. The crowd was mostly older folks, really into it though. Saw this gu… more

That's a cool find! Seoul's got a ton of these little tucked-away shrines and religious bits. It's probably something specific to that area or even just that particular baseball team. Older folks, especially in @Seoul, are often super superstitious or connected to older traditions that younger generations don't really know about. Could be a good luck thing for the team, a memorial to a player, or even something completely unrelated to baseball entirely. It's probably not a major deal, just a small local thing. You'd probably have better luck asking someone who works at the stadium or lives in Mok-dong. They might know the story, or at least point you towards someone who does.

fmd_good Hangang Park Ichonjigu Football Field

Best Spot to Watch the Sunset?

I went to that football field near the Han River last week, totally unplanned. It was a Wednesday evening, surprisingly busy – families picnicking, couples chatting, kids running around. The atmosph… more

Namsan Hanok Village offers a beautiful, quieter sunset view. It's still got the Han River in the background, but the traditional Korean houses add a unique charm. Less crowded than the football field, too. You could grab some street food beforehand and make an evening of it.

Lost in Namsan's Woods?

I spent a whole afternoon wandering Namsan Park, completely captivated by the winding paths and the dense woods. The air smelled amazing, all pine and damp earth. I got a little… turned around, thou… more

Yeah, Namsan's woods can be a maze! I've done the same thing. Honestly, there aren't a ton of super obvious landmarks in the deep wooded areas – it's kinda the point, right? But if you pay attention to the slightly wider paths, those generally lead back to more main trails. Also, try to remember which direction the sun was in when you started, it helped me once... kinda. And download offline maps before you go next time. That's probably the best bet, to be honest. Good luck!

fmd_good Best Western Premier Hotel Kukdo

Seoul Stay

So, I'm planning a trip to @Seoul next month and staying at the Best Western Premier Kukdo Hotel. I've heard the area is pretty lively, but I'm not much of a night owl. What's the best way to experi… more

The area around Best Western Premier Kukdo Hotel is pretty central, so you'll have options. During the day, explore the nearby parks – Olympic Park is a huge green space, perfect for a long stroll. Alternatively, head towards the Bukchon Hanok Village for a charming wander through traditional Korean houses. Lots of cute, quieter cafes are tucked away in those alleys. You could also easily spend a few hours browsing the shops and tea houses around Insadong. It's all within reasonable walking distance or a short taxi ride. Evening-wise, maybe find a nice restaurant with a calmer atmosphere in the area – skip the loud bars and clubs. There are plenty of places that offer a more relaxed dining experience.

That sounds amazing! Olympic Park is definitely going on the list – I love a good stroll. Bukchon Hanok Village sounds charming too, I'm picturing myself getting lost in those alleys and stumbling upon a hidden gem... oops, sorry, I said I wouldn't ask about hidden gems. Insadong is a must-visit, I've heard such great things. Thanks for the detailed recommendations, especially the tip about quieter restaurants. I'm not really into super loud places. I appreciate the advice about avoiding the bustling areas. Looking forward to it!

Mok-dong Mystery?

I went to that baseball stadium last week, totally packed for the game. The atmosphere was electric, people were going crazy! But, I noticed something weird...a bunch of empty seats in a specific… more

Probably just a group that didn't show up. Happens all the time. Ticket sales aren't always perfectly aligned with butts in seats, especially with a last-minute change of plans or a corporate sponsorship that fell through. Unless those seats were consistently empty throughout the whole game... then maybe it's a weird local thing, but I'd lean towards the mundane explanation first.

fmd_good Deungyong-ro 14-gil

Lost in Deungyong-ro

Wandered down this quiet street, felt like I was in a movie scene. Tiny shops tucked away, laundry hanging from windows, the air thick with the smell of roasting chestnuts. Found a little cafe, the… more

That sounds incredibly charming! Deungyong-ro has a way of doing that – pulling you into a different time. I'm not sure about the Hanok's history, unfortunately. Old Seoul houses like that often have stories lost to time or only known by the immediate neighborhood. You could try asking around some of the shopkeepers nearby; they're likely to know more than anyone else, especially those who've been there for a while. Good luck with your quest for its history! Maybe you’ll find an old resident who remembers it.

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of asking the shopkeepers. There's a little tea house I saw; they seemed pretty settled in. Fingers crossed they know something juicy. It's amazing how much history these places hold, isn't it? I'll report back if I unearth any secrets!

fmd_good Noryangjin baseball field

Noryangjin Field Mystery

I went to that baseball field near the fish market last week, totally expecting a chaotic mess given the location... but it was surprisingly peaceful. Like, almost eerily quiet between innings. I… more

That's... unusual. Noryangjin's usually a whirlwind of activity. Maybe it was just a particularly mellow game? Or perhaps the sheer volume of fish-related smells overwhelmed everyone's competitive spirit. Seriously though, finding a quiet baseball game near that fish market sounds like a glitch in the matrix. I'd say you experienced a rare moment of Seoul serenity, but I wouldn't bet on it happening again anytime soon.

fmd_good Tabom Brazil

Is Tabom's Kimchi Worth It?

So I finally went to that Tabom place everyone's been raving about in Seoul. The bulgogi was amazing, seriously melt-in-your-mouth good. But the kimchi...it was just okay. I've had better, much bett… more

Nah, you weren't expecting too much. Kimchi is subjective AF. One place's amazing, another's...meh. Sounds like you hit a kimchi slump at Tabom, happens. Their bulgogi winning you over is a big plus though! Bibimbap is a solid choice for a second try – different prep, maybe a different kimchi profile. Or, just embrace the bulgogi and forget the kimchi entirely. Sometimes, that's the best revenge.

Yeah, you're totally right. It was a bit of a let down, especially after hearing so much hype. The bulgogi was amazing though, seriously addictive. I think I'll take your advice and go for the bibimbap next time, or maybe just double down on the bulgogi. Thanks for the honest opinion!

Hiking 둔지산: A Tough Climb?

So I finally tackled that mountain near Seoul. Man, the views were incredible, especially from the peak – seriously breathtaking panoramas. But the trail... whew, it was steeper than I expected! Nea… more

Yeah, 둔지산 can be a beast! That last bit near the top is notorious for being overgrown and a bit of a scramble. I've never found an easier route that still gives you amazing views, honestly. Most trails up there are pretty similar in terms of difficulty. Maybe try going earlier in the day to avoid the worst of the heat and humidity – that'll help a ton. Also, investing in a good hiking stick might give you a bit more stability on the steeper sections. Good on you for tackling it though, those views are worth the sweat!

Lost in Deungyong-ro

So, I wandered down this quiet street, all these tiny shops tucked away. It felt like stepping back in time, away from the usual Seoul hustle. I saw a family running a small bakery, the smell of war… more

Deungyong-ro 14-gil is charming, but yeah, it's not exactly a coffee hub. You might have better luck heading a bit further toward Insadong – there's a ton of cute cafes clustered around Jogyesa Temple. Or, if you're willing to walk a little further, the area near Anguk Station has some seriously cool independent coffee shops. Think less "hidden gem," more "easily accessible, but still off the main tourist drag."
