hi guys i am looking for chill ppl to hangout with at Hongdae tonight. I am 25 M Korean.

I like getting dinner together, you know the wholesome stuff, get to know each other, ice breaking, go to some place with drinks where we can hear each other talk. maybe like a room pocha or Japanese izakaya. u know feel the vibe type. or possibly bounce to a club. I want to get to know you n stuff.

there's a spot in hongdae called 술통 behind the old art market building, it's a standing bar setup with wooden barrels as tables and they do these massive fried chicken platters with like 5 different sauces. not a room pocha but it's loud enough to feel alive and quiet enough to actually talk if u sit at the corner barrel. i'm 24m and could meet there around 8:30 if u want, no pressure either way

tbh if u want something a bit different from the usual pocha circuit, there's this japanese place called 오코노미야키 오뎅 at the entrance of the hongdae playground alley. it's tiny, like 6 seats at the counter, and they do okonomiyaki right in front of u. the owner's a japanese guy who lived in seoul for 10 years so the vibes are chill and the soju's actually cold there. im 28f and free around 8 if u wanna grab a seat before it fills up

honestly i'd skip the usual hongdae spots and try 연남동 instead. there's a small place called 골목집 near the main street, it's a tiny old house converted into a pocha, super cozy and you can actually hear each other. i'm 27m and free tonight, could meet around 7:30 if you want to grab some makgeolli first

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
