I've heard people recommend the Yongsan location a lot but with no explanation as to what makes that location special. All the good seats are sold out at that location so it seems a little less worth it going just to go.

I feel like 4DX sounds like something I've experienced at disneyland so I'm wondering if it's really all that and more to experience it again at a theatre but for a longer period lol.... would it be better to try the pricier premier experiences?

which movie experiences would you say are must try in seoul if you only have time for one movie (in this case, it'd be the wicked movie that just released).

honestly i think the yongsan hype is more about the multiplex experience than the actual screen quality - that place has like 20 screens and a massive food court so it feels like an event. but for wicked specifically, i'd skip the premium stuff entirely. the cgv at gangnam has a really nice standard theater with those leather recliners that are way more comfortable for a 2.5 hour musical

4dx is fun for like 15 minutes then it gets annoying ngl. the seats jerk around during every little scene and for a movie like wicked where you're trying to focus on the singing it's just distracting. i'd rather pay for the sweetbox combo and get those cheese sticks than waste money on moving seats

if you only have time for one showing, go to the cgv at hongdae. it's not the fanciest but the screens are big enough and the tickets are cheaper. plus you're right next to the main street so your friend can show you around before or after. save the premium stuff for an action movie next time

Yongsan's hype is partly about the 4DX ScreenX combo room, but for Wicked specifically, I think the real issue is CGV's premium pricing doesn't match the movie's tone. 4DX will have you swaying during "Defying Gravity" which sounds fun on paper but in practice the motion profiles for musicals are pretty gentle and forgettable.

If you want something genuinely different, try the CGV at Daehangno. They have a smaller theater called "CINE de CHEF" that's more like a lounge with individual tables and proper meal service. For Wicked's runtime you'll appreciate being able to eat a real dinner during the movie instead of just popcorn. It's about 38,000 won but the seats are actual armchairs with footrests, not those narrow recliners.

The Yongsan location is worth visiting once for the sheer scale of the building, but for actually watching a musical I'd rather be somewhere I can stretch out. The Daehangno branch is also right next to the university district so your friend can show you the street food scene after, which is way better than the overpriced CGV food court options.

yeah the yongsan hype is real but it's mostly about the SCREENX combo room where the side walls are actually seamless. if the good seats are gone at yongsan tho, don't bother. the side projection looks terrible from off-center seats, you'll just see warped images on the walls

for wicked specifically, skip 4dx and skip screenx imo. the movie has too many close-up emotional scenes where the moving seats just get in the way. go for the "CINE & FORET" at CGV Myeongdong station instead. it's a smaller premium room with those massive leather recliners that fully recline, and they serve wine and charcuterie during the movie. tickets run about 40,000 won but for a 2.5 hour musical you'll actually enjoy being able to stretch out

if you only have one slot in seoul, do the regular 2D showing at the new CGV in Times Square mall at Yeongdeungpo. that theater has the biggest standard screen in the city and the sound system is actually calibrated properly. tickets are like 14,000 won and you don't waste money on gimmicks that don't fit the movie. plus the food court downstairs has that famous tteokbokki place your friend prob already knows about

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 14 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
