Every once in a while I find myself near spectators for a "big" road race. A few weeks ago I think there was a marathon finishing at Olympic Park?

Anyway, what's the best site to find these races? I'm no way ready for a marathon but anything local would be awesome.

for shorter stuff just follow the pace crews on instagram, groups like 런데이 or the han river saturday crews post open 5k/10k runs that arent really races, no signup site, no fee, you just show up at like 7am near 뚝섬 or 반포 and run with whoever's there. way easier than the official race portal if u just want people to run with & a route. also check the running section on dcinside, koreans drop race dates there before anywhere else but its chaotic lol

the Olympic Park finish you saw was prob the Seoul Marathon in March, but for smaller stuff I actually use the app 마라톤온라인 less and just stalk the 서울시 체육시설관리사업소 site, they post permits for road races so you see them before signup even opens. also worth knowing most 5k/10k races around 여의도 and 뚝섬 open registration on a random weekday morning and sell out same day, so set an alarm. entry fees run 30 to 50k won usually.

honestly the Seoul Marathon you saw is the big one, usually early March, and the half fills up months ahead. for shorter stuff I'd check the Seoul city sports portal or just follow running crews on instagram, they post 5k and 10k races around Han River parks constantly. ngl the signup sites are mostly Korean only so u might need a friend to help register.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
