Help me with some itinerary for our trip?

We would love some recommendations about places to see/ food to try. We will be staying in in Supyo-dong and our budget is around 100$ max per meal/ venture if that helps. Definitely want to experience what locals consider "less tourist-y". Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thank you so much!

Supyo-dong puts you right by the old city, so take advantage of mornings before the crowds show up. Walk north to the Cheonggyecheon stream around 7am, then grab breakfast at a tiny gimbap shop on the side streets near Jongmyo Shrine, the kind where ajummas are rolling kimbap fresh, it'll run you maybe 5 bucks for a full tray.

For a less touristy dinner that eats up your budget nicely, head to the area around Dongdaemun Design Plaza but skip the fancy spots, go deeper into the alleys behind it, look for places with just a hanging curtain instead of a sign. You'll find grilled eel or spicy braised fish, about 70 to 90 per person for a full spread, and you'll be the only foreigners there.

Also consider a late afternoon at Seoul Forest instead of the usual palaces, it's a quick subway ride and locals actually picnic there, grab some fried chicken from a chain like BBQ Chicken near the entrance and sit by the Han River path, it's a completely different vibe from the downtown crush.

One thing I'd add, on the 28th there's a seasonal night market at Yeongdeungpo, take line 1 there, it's mostly office workers and families, street food stalls with things like tteokbokki and fried dumplings for a few thousand won each, a nice low-pressure way to end the trip.

yeah Supyo-dong is a great base, you're right in the middle of it. for less touristy food, walk over to Gwangjang Market but skip the main alley, go to the back stalls near the old textile shops, the knife-cut noodle spots there are killer and like 8 bucks a bowl. also check out the area around Changgyeonggung Palace at night, the walk from there to Daehakro has these tiny pojangmacha tents that locals hit after work, get the stir-fried pork and soju, super cheap.

for a proper meal under your budget, try a hanjeongsik place in Samcheong-dong, but avoid the ones right on the main street, go one block up toward the hill, there's a place called Tosokchon's sister spot, sorry forget the name, but it's all locals and the set menu runs about 60 per person.

one thing people miss, take the subway to Euljiro 3-ga station, exit 4, and just wander the old machine shops at night, there are these hidden bars and tiny grilled mackerel joints tucked between the metalworks, feels like stepping back 30 years. also grab a late-night bowl of naengmyeon at a place near Jongno 3-ga station, the cold broth hits different after a day of walking.

if you want a chill afternoon, rent a bike at Ttuk

Honestly, your budget is way more than you need for anything good. Just walk around Ikseon-dong and pick any narrow alley that smells like garlic, you'll be fine.

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
