I was curious where the best place to live for a single working professional in the area. Love to play screen golf, tennis, lift weight, and plan to get involved with some volunteering/English speaking church if able. Any suggestions welcome!

honestly bundang is your best bet like the other person said, but i'd actually look at 야탑 (yatap) station area if you want something a bit less crowded. it's quieter than 서현 but still has everything you need within walking distance, plus the rent's cheaper by like 200-300k won a month for similar sized places. there's a good tennis club near yatap lake park with some indoor courts if you hate the cold, and the church of the nazarene in yatap-dong has an english service that does volunteer work around seongnam. for weights, iron gym near yatap station is solid, about 70k a month but better equipment than spao. winter here is brutal btw, get a proper coat and maybe some thermal layers before u come

i'd actually suggest looking at 수내 (sunae) station area instead of the main bundang hubs. it's quieter but still has that same vibe, and the commute to seongnam proper is like 10 minutes on the bus. there's a solid tennis club called 탄천테니스장 near the river that does evening leagues for foreigners, and the 신세계 (shinsegae) department store in sunae has a decent fitness center with a pool if you wanna mix up your lifting routine. for screen golf, check out 골프존 at sunae station exit 3, it's open until 2am and they have english menus on the tablet. there's also a small international fellowship at 분당중앙교회 that does volunteer stuff on weekends, mostly food drives and teaching english to kids. winter's gonna be cold as hell but the subway connects everything underground so you won't freeze walking around

seongnam's a solid choice for what you're looking for. the 분당 (bundang) area is where most english-speaking professionals end up, lots of expat-friendly cafes and western restaurants around 서현역 and 정자역. screen golf places are everywhere, literally one on every other block, and there's a decent tennis community at 탄천 (tancheon) sport complex if you don't mind outdoor courts. for lifting, 스파오 (spao) fitness in 정자동 is pretty no-frills but cheap and open 24hrs, like 50,000 won a month. there's a few international churches in 분당 too, saerom church has an english service i think. you'll be fine with minimal korean, most stuff in that area has some english menus or signs

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!
arrow_drop_up 15 arrow_drop_down

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
